Volunteers… We need you!

The 34th Annual Run for the Zoo invites you to be part of the fun without running the Run! All Volunteers receive an official “Zoo Crew” t-shirt that gains you FREE entry into the Zoo on Run day.

There are a variety of jobs available on the following dates:

  • Saturday, May 4 - Packet Pick-Up

  • Packet Pick-Up: Help us distribute t-shirts and race necessities to all Run for the Zoo participants.

    This is held at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center at 2401 12th Street N.W.

  • Saturday, May 4 - Pre-Event Set Up

  • Set Up: Help put the finishing touches on the event area for Race Day! Duties may include moving water, stacking banners, hanging shirts, stacking boxes, among other things.

    We’ll start at the NMBPS office (1320 Iron Ave. S.W.) and finish in front of the Zoo.

  • Sunday, May 5 - Water Volunteer

  • Water Volunteers: Help us keep runners hydrated at one of the water stations below! This volunteer option is great for groups!

    1.North Tingley:
    • Time: 6:45 to 11, or until last runner passes
    • Location: Central and Tingley
    • Parking: ABQ BioPark Aquarium

    2. 2nd Street:
    • Time: 7:00 to 11, or until last runner passes
    • Location: NEAR 2nd street and Bridge
    • Parking: available at the water station

    3. Half Marathon Turn Around:
    • Time: 7:00 to 10, or until last runner passes
    • Location: Rio Bravo and Poco Loco (west of 2nd street)
    • Parking: available at water station.

    4. Kit Carson:
    • Time: 6:00-12 noon, or until last runner passes
    • Location: Kit Carson and Alcalde
    • Parking: ABQ Pool lot (14th and Iron) or in neighborhood OUTSIDE course

    5. Asia Station:
    • Time: 9:15 to 12 noon, or until last runner passes (This group will ride the train from the Aquarium lot to Zoo)
    • Location: Inside Zoo at Asia Train Station
    • Parking: ABQ Aquarium, take train to Zoo

    6. 15th and Park:
    • Time: 7 a.m. to 12 noon, or until last runner passes
    • Location: 15th and Park
    • Parking: available on 15th or in neighboring areas, OUTSIDE course

  • Sunday, May 5 - Zoo Crew

  • Zoo Crew: Be part of the action by cheering on runners, passing out shirts, helping with awards, etc.

    Areas specifically seeking volunteers include:
    • Volunteer T-Shirt Distribution
    • Awards Area
    • Corporate Tent
    • Merchandise Tent
    • Floaters – help us relieve volunteers and staff who need a break!

  • Sunday, May 5 - Clean Up Zoo Crew:

  • Clean Up Crew: Help us, we’re tired! Ride the train over from the ABQ BioPark Aquarium to the Zoo and check out our vendors, get your volunteer shirt, and hang out until 12 noon when we meet at the info tent to tear down the run and pack up the fun! We’ll move tables, pick up chairs, and pack it all up into a van. Then, we’ll head back to the NMBPS Office (1320 Iron Ave. SW), and unload it all there! After that, enjoy the Zoo and take the train back to your ride!
